OnDemand for i5/OS is used by IBM customers worldwide to index, archive and retrieve spooled files, PC files, and scanned documents. The Common Server feature of the product has significant enhancements over the earlier Spool File Archive feature, including:
- powerful indexing capabilities
- graphical administrative tools
- enhanced customization of the OnDemand Client for end users
- optional web browser interface
IBM has developed a tool to help customers migrate from Spool File Archive to Common Server. Depending on the size and complexity of their environment, customers may choose to use this tool or use other methods to migrate their archived documents and indexes. Whichever path is followed, it is very important to analyze the current OnDemand environment and plan the migration well.
